American vs British words.

"This moment has caused a reaction Resulting in our reattachment Oh you take me to nirvana I don't think this will last But you're here in my arms" Nirvana by Sam Smith.
I'm in love with Sam Smiths' voice, the other tracks he featured on didn't do him justice, it's amazing.!!!

Firstly, can i just say R.I.P to Nelson Mandela, who will continue to be a great inspiration to all.

Also, can you check out this blog, i'm not going to lie it's not going to be for everyone but i really like it haha. Also, they did actually come up with the idea for this whole words slang thingy majigy.
http://authenticindisguise.blogspot.co.uk/

So, here is goes. Words that we say differently, or don't even say at all:

  • Boot, we say boot however americans say Trunk. I don't even know why, they both sound just as bad.
  • An obvious one is Chips and Crisps, obviously we say crisps but americans say chips or potato chips i've sometimes heard.
  • Our chips, are there french fries or just fries but the funny thing is we actually have crisps called..French Fries.  (Actually i don't think that's funny because they look like french fries)
  • Drawing pin, right a drawing pin is sometimes used to pin this on the wall or something like on a corkboard or something but americans refer to it as Thumbtack. Like wft is thumbtack (Well i know what it is, but why ;o :o?) oh well.
  • An estate agent (Someone who you buy a house from) is a Real estate agent. Like can you get fake ones, does it need to be specified that the person is infact a REAL estate agent?
  • Maths and Math, we British say Maths however across the pond they say Math. I was thinking about this, and Maths is right because maths is full of little sections to it i suppose but then on movies (i dunno if this is true) they seem to have them all separately like Geometry and Trigonometry and stuff like that, which i suppose is okay if Math is just Math? (Does that make sense?)
  • Wellies, i love my wellies but it seems they are also called Rubber boots? correct me if i'm wrong but yeah
  • We have the Tube here don't we, but in America they call it a Subway, now i was never sure if that's what they called the tube station...
  • Postman (I love my post man he is so so cute) is referred to as the Mailman, and the Postbox, is the mailbox. At least they match right?
Sometimes Americans spell things differently as well though isn't it.
  • This is probably the main one but Mom, like why spell it like that? We spell it Mum, but then i suppose we say it kinda differently. Do we??
  • We have a 'U' in the word colour but in America they spell it 'Color'.
  • Also they have Z's where we have S's E.g. Organization/Organisation.
Interesting i know but we also noticed how 'Bollocks' is quite a british word, and 'Innit' but then when you think of it, you wouldn't imagine an American saying words like that would you. Like errm, 'Sick' it's quite a common british slang word that basically means cool or good.
I don't know any American slang words. Sorry. Actually 'Molly' i don't think we say Molly, as in the drug and if anyone did, they'd probably be saying it to look cool.

Okay, so that;s it. If you have anything you would like to add, do feel free.
I was not taking offence, to Americans i promise, i just think this is quite an interesting topic.
Also, i forgot to ask how you where. Sorry. I hope your well, have a good weekend as well, don't party to hard because i'm revising my life away.
