MØ is a new up and coming singer, she's danish i think, but she is really good. Her single was the free single of the week on iTunes last week which is how i heard about her, and her album "No Mythologies To Follow" is out soon. I think?
Hiiiii, how y'all doing? I've just done a practice English paper, and i felt i needed a break. So this is just an impromptu blog post about what it's like to have braces if i haven't already done one before.
Also, i'll have to track down a before and after picture, maybe.
When?
I got my braces at the end of Year 9 in July (2012), and i remember it was just before i went on holiday. Which sucked. Also i went to Zambia and i went to my Nans farm, and she was telling everyone why i had these weird metal things in my mouth. (She could tell they were slightly confused).
The funny thing is, my mum is actually an Orthodontist out there. I got my top braces put on before i went on holiday, and the bottom ones when i came back.
How Long?
I had my braces on for about 1 Year and 3 Months, which actually isn't that long because i know so many people who have had them for far longer so i guess i was a lucky one. I got my braces off in October last year.
Did They Hurt?
One thing i will say if you have to get braces is, don't ask anybody this question! If you do ask this question to someone you know who has had braces don't assume there experience will be the same as yours, because it probably won't.
From my experience i can say that they didn't really hurt, by that i mean say you walked into a table or something, you get that pain right? Or if you drop something on your toe, that kills like a B-Word. However getting braces for me was more of an ache than a pain if that makes sense it wasn't always there, there were days when i forgot i had braces but the aching of them sometimes did keep my awake at night, i must admit it was uncomfortable. The aching was only from where i could feel my teeth moving into position.
So for this question i would answer No they didn't hurt, but that was my experience, i can't stress that enough. For some, it may be worse.
Can You Still Eat The Same Foods?
Not really is what i would say. I was recommended not to eat chewing gum, or bite into things and not drink fizzy drinks (I then got shown a picture of what would happen if i did drink fizzy drinks with my braces on).
I wouldn't advise biting into things because it's all just going to get stuck in the front, and everyone will see. So i learnt to break things off and then eat it, i also invested in an Apple cutter to slice my apples up because i couldn't bite into them. Ribs, it's hard not being able to bite into a rack of ribs and for a whole year and three months i couldn't do that :(
If you are going to continue biting into things and drinking fizzy drinks just make sure you brush your teeth really well.
Can They Break?
They actually can believe it or not, sometimes it is recommended to wear a mouthguard or something when you play sports.
Me being capable of anything, managed to break on of the Brackets (The square things you see stuck onto the teeth) however i don't think it was my fault. I was eating dry cornflakes because they are just beautiful without milk, and one of the back brackets fell off. My mum just laughed and told me i can't keep eating them haha.
And now, i look for a before and after picture.
I don't have any before and after pictures which sucks, i only have like the ones with and without haha.
| I used to have a gap in the front two teeth which had gone by then. |
| Now i have a retainer with teeth on it because i had missing teeth |
That's all for today, have an amazing week not long 'till half-term.
Also, the girls in the picture on the left also have blogs, they are really good you should have a look. ( Alice's Blog ) and ( Ginas Blog )
Have a good week,
all the best,
Naz
